My work focuses on accessibility of built spaces and facilitating connections between people to experience their community and not feel othered. When I plan a tour with my group, I want variety thatโ€™s outside of visual art alone. Iโ€™m looking for makerspaces and things we can touch and interact with. Transportation is always something Iโ€™m thinking about as well. We need safe, accessible drop off spots where people also feel comfortable traveling on their own. It helps to go somewhere we can see a lot at once, like Canopy. I also focus on people and places that are welcoming. When we talk about accessibility in the arts, what is helpful is more interaction. There is a natural curiosity about the stories behind why and how things are made. It is the most fun when the artist is presentโ€”it adds context beyond just seeing it.

Over the years in my different roles as a curator, critic and even art teacher Iโ€™ve come to appreciate all types of art mediums. What draws me in is when artists are doing something new with their materials, an attention-grabbing presentation and when work speaks to a specific perspective. I enjoy it most when I can hear and feel the artistsโ€™ story through their work.
