My work focuses on accessibility of built spaces and facilitating connections between people to experience their community and not feel othered.
When I plan a tour with my group, I want variety thatโs outside of visual art alone. Iโm looking for makerspaces and things we can touch and interact with. Transportation is always something Iโm thinking about as well. We need safe, accessible drop off spots where people also feel comfortable traveling on their own. It helps to go somewhere we can see a lot at once, like Canopy.
I also focus on people and places that are welcoming. When we talk about accessibility in the arts, what is helpful is more interaction. There is a natural curiosity about the stories behind why and how things are made. It is the most fun when the artist is presentโit adds context beyond just seeing it.

Over the years in my different roles as a curator, critic and even art teacher Iโve come to appreciate all types of art mediums. What draws me in is when artists are doing something new with their materials, an attention-grabbing presentation and when work speaks to a specific perspective. I enjoy it most when I can hear and feel the artistsโ story through their work.
