3D/Sculpture
In my latest work, I’m drawn to the concept of rascuachismo which describes the creative reuse of ordinary items in the pursuit of defiance or nonconformity through the eyes of a trickster or underdog. My love of making objects started one day in the 2nd grade in Eagle Pass when my teacher introduced us kids to Play-Doh. Many years later, after receiving my BFA from the New York Academy of Art in the mid-1990’s, I worked as a studio assistant for Jeff Koons in NYC. There I served as the lead artist on Koons’ large-scale sculpture ‘Play Doh’, bringing me full-circle in my journey as a sculptor.

What TO expect

Come explore the new series, Molcajetes Rascuaches, comprised of absurdist interpretations of the humble Mesoamerican mortar and pestle. Additionally, in my outdoor studio, I’ll be using my foundry to demonstrate the lost-foam process for casting metal sculptures. See firsthand how molten aluminum is poured into handmade molds.
