Jeffrey’s abstract work arose, in part, from a fascination with the lines of Ukiyo-e prints and manga illustration. Rather than lines reproduced from drawings to create multiple images, however, the lines of his abstract drawings and paintings are made compositely to create single, unique works. In the recent “Eyes and Hands” series, exact facial anatomy is elided while velum cut outs of hands affixed to the underlying eyes-paintings play with relationships of gesture and expressions.
