Painting
I paint construction sites, infrastructure and human patterns from above, exploring this moment by painting large scale aspects of our built environment. I am also on a side-quest, sculpturally describing femininity and motherhood using a variety of materials including up-cycled remnants of family life. The resulting work: a game you can play called β€œsperm-hole,” a soft cage for motherhood and a series of flower-creature chimera, playing on themes in the horror genre relating to sex and female genitalia. Children who can handle cussing and loud talk about gender issues are welcome.

What TO expect

Andrea Nelson’s stop is a classic example of Austin Studio Tour’s humble beginnings: an individual artist’s Eastside home studio. Here you will find the space she does most of her art work in, some finished work, and some work in progress. Currently in studio: detailed modern landscape paintings, large-scale paper mΓ’chΓ© and stuffed fabric things (some of which are interactive). There will be a game to play, and candy if you dare reach in to get it.
