I am Thomas Gutierrez, aka STNLOW (pronounced “sittin-low”, like a lowrider), a cut paper artist. My work combines the detail techniques and cultural symbolism of traditional Mexican Papel Picado and Aztec paper cutting, with the bold, graphic style and visual impact of modern stencil street art. Innovating on both process and form, I rework traditional street art stencil processes by using the cutout pieces typically discarded by traditional stencil artists to create layered, hand-made artworks.
